Many big events on the calendar for the spring
By Tim Eberhart, executive directorRainsville Chamber of Commerce
The Rainsville Chamber office gladly serves as a community information center fielding inquiries about area events and businesses. These days, more people get event information from the events page on our Rainsville website than by phoning the office.
There are several events I need to add to the website right away. I have already fielded a couple of phone calls concerning Rainsville’s largest two day event, the Northeast Alabama Home & Garden Show (neahgshow.com). It will be March 20th and 21st at the coliseum.
I also need to add the big circus, the Chamber’s annual luncheon, and the college theatre department’s spring production.
The Chamber’s Administrative Professionals Day Luncheon will be Wednesday, April 21st. The NACC Theatre Department will present “The Little Shop of Horrors” in April, as well.
The Rainsville Civitan Club will sponsor the Carson and Barnes Circus on Monday, April 26th. That is the traveling five-ring circus with the “Biggest Big Top on Earth.” I believe over 5,000 people enjoyed the show when this circus made a stop in Rainsville back in 2005. I will not be volunteering to ride the elephant this time.
Speaking of the Civitan Club, they meet on the first and third Monday of each month at The Mountain Restaurant. I’m supposed to invite a friend to the meeting this coming Monday. If you would like to find out what the club is all about, the meeting is at noon. Tell them I invited you.
Speaking of clubs, the Duos & Solos Square Dance Club has started square dancing at the Tom Bevill Enrichment Center. They will be there every Thursday evening between next week and December. They will also offer beginner Western-style square dance lessons on the next two Thursdays.
Few people realize how well utilized the Enrichment Center has been. Owned and operated by the City of Rainsville, it has recently averaged over 520 events per year. That includes all events—large and small—including the senior nutrition center activities every weekday morning.
The center’s calendar is getting full for this year—especially in the summer months—but several days remain open for events. You may check rates and availability by calling 638-4343 on weekday mornings, or feel free to contact me in the afternoons at 638-7800, or timeberhart@farmerstel.com.
