Pretty good start to new year

By Tim Eberhart, executive director
Rainsville Chamber of Commerce

Outside of the terrible Canadian air that has gripped our land, I would have to consider the start of 2010 a pretty good one for me, personally. With a second consecutive three day weekend, two very long hikes in the forest, watching 18 bowl games, and sleeping late a couple of times, it could not have started much better.

I hope 2010 has started well for you as well. Maybe Canada will take their air back soon.

It is going to be a big year in Rainsville with major contruction of the Agri-Business Center underway.

The Chamber’s year will kick off with its 43rd annual meeting on Thursday, January 21st. It will start at 6:30 PM at the TBEC, and will feature a catered dinner by The Mountain Restaurant, live entertainment by Leah Seawright and her band featuring Country Music Hall of Fame drummer Mark Herndon. The banquet will also feature the 2010 Rainsville Person of the Year award presentation, and the introduction of the Chamber’s newly elected directors. It is open to the public, and is always a lot of fun. I encourage anyone who likes good food and music to consider themselves invited. Tickets are only $25 each. To reserve your’s contact me at 638-7800 or timeberhart@farmerstel.com.

In other business, congratulations goes to Sunshine Cleaners as the blue ribbon winner of our merchant Christmas decoration contest. Located at the redlight downtown, think of Sunshine first for all your garment cleaning needs.

We have two new Chamber members to start the year. First, Zoomin Photography is your one-stop shop for portraits, sports team photos, personalized invitations, posters and greeting cards. They also have their own fast photo lab when you want to print some of the pictures on your SD card. Stop by their store located at 244 McCurdy Avenue (Hwy 75) North or call them at 638-1444 to find out more about their photography services.

The other new member is Pell’s Gap Estates, a restricted real estate development on the bluff on the north side of the Blake community. A limited number of lots are available with spectacular views of Wills Valley and Lookout Mountain. Two common areas with walking trails and scenic overlooks provide every resident access to those views. Learn more at pellsgap.com, or drop by my office for a brochure.
