Childhood summer memories

Since I was just a wee tot, I have always liked banana popsicles. Certain things stick with you forever, don't they?

I don't remember much more about my early childhood. I hope that's normal. I'm talking about the time when I was between three to nine years old.

Most of the few memories I can muster from that time involve summer, and vacation bible school.

My strongest memories from those old VBSs involve songs about the love of Jesus, lessons and crafts about the love of Jesus, and eating banana popsicles every day.

My church had VBS last week. By every account I've heard it was a big success. Dozens of children made lasting memories. Maybe they will remember what they learned when they are in their 40s.

For parents and grandparents who have not already planned to do so, I encourage you to take your children, or grandchildren, to the VBS of your choice. What they might learn, in my opinion, is far more important than any other thing they could do this summer. They will almost certainly have loads of fun, make new friends, and cool off with some refreshing treats.

In business news I have a new Chamber of Commerce member to report. The Healing Touch, a massage therapy provider, is our newest member.

Owner Brooke Lassetter White is well established in our community, having been a licensed massage therapist in Rainsville for several years now. She moved into her new location at 244 Church Avenue in April.

Pamela Simpson Clifton, also a licensed massage therapist, joined The Healing Touch staff in April.

For those looking for a last minute Father's Day gift, The Healing Touch offers gift certificates.

A one-hour massage from The Healing Touch may be the ultimate Father's Day gift. If not, how about a pick-up truck from Jimmy Wells Used Cars, or an RTV from Boykin Tractor Company. Maybe your father would prefer a wood pellet barbecue grill from Johnson Lumber Company, a recliner from Thomas & Son Furniture,  a membership at Body Vision Fitness Center, some new tires, new jeans, or a gift basket. Others may like something like dinner out with his children or grandchildren.

Contact me immediately if you need assistance locating these, or any other, last-minute Father's Day gifts in Rainsville.
